A small historical reference

Geography: Almetyevsk is a city in the Republic of Tatarstan, located on the left bank of the Zay River (Kama's tributary) 265 kilometers (165 mi) southeast of Kazan.

Almetyevsk is situated 39 km from the Leninogorsk and its largest Romashkinskoye field Volga-Ural province in southern Tatarstan. Today Romashkinskoye field is one of the largest oil fields in the world.

Date of foundation: XVIII century. The first mention - 1720

History: The former name of village - Almetevo (Al Metevo). The founder of the village is considered mullah Almet (probably an abbreviation of Al-Mohammed). Almetyevsk is one of the youngest cities in the republic. It was founded as an oil-processing settlement and was granted town status in 1953.
