Geography: Anzhero-Sudzhensk is a town in the Kuznetsk Basin in Kemerovo Oblast, located to the north of the oblast's administrative center of Kemerovo and to the east of the Tom River, on the route of the Trans-Siberian Railway.

The town was formed by merging the settlements of Anzherka and Sudzhenka.

Date of foundation: 1897. Town status - 1931

History: Begin Anzhero-Sudzhensk connected with the development of coal deposits discovered in the late 19th century. The settlements on the site of modern Anzhero-Sudzhensk emerged in the years 1896-1897 in connection with the construction of the railway line and the start of coal mining. The settlement Anzherka was named for its location on the river of Angers, name of the settlement Sudzhenka transferred come from the Kursk province, where there is a river and the town of Sudzha.
