A small historical reference

Ivanovo - the center of the Ivanovo region, located in the central part of the region, on the banks of the River Uvod. Founding date presumably - XIV-XV century. The first written mention - 1561. Previous name - Ivanovo-Voznesensk (until 1932). The city history begins (presumably) to persons or Vologda Arkhangelsk province. In 1579, near the village it was built a wooden male Pokrovsky Monastery, and beside him the monastic settlement Pritikin.

Grown rich on trade and weaving, local merchants began to develop industrial production. In 1742 Gregory Butrimov founded the first Ivanovo linen textiles. Former farmer O. S. Sokov founded finishing ramming manufacture, ushering Ivanovo cotton production. In 1812 he founded the manufactory Diodorus Burylina, in 1817 - Kuvaeva, 1825 - Polushina, in 1828 - Gandurina. It gradually became the center of the city of Ivanovo Light Industry of the Russian Empire.
