A small historical reference
Shenkursk - center of Shenkursky district of the Arkhangelsk Region, located in the south-west of the region, on the river Vaga, left tributary of the Northern Dvina River. The status of the city - 1780 year. Previous name - Vaga, Shencur'e, Shenkursky little town.
In 1446, the city was referred to as Shencursky Posad. In 1565 - the city of Wagga oprichnina. In 1606, it was listed among the towns Vazhsky fortress on Mount Sheng-Courier. Inside the prison there was a church of the Archangel Michael, Provincial courtyard, next to him - sliding down hut, Zemsky yard, a tavern and a prison. In the fortress were living 29 yards with arcades.
