History of city Vologda in photos
A small historical reference
Vologda - the center of the Vologda region, situated on the south of the region, on both banks of the Vologda River. The probable date of the founding and the first written mention - 1147. The city history begins with the founding monk Gerasim on Kaisarova Creek (which flows into the river Vologda) Trinity Monastery. During the reign of Tsar Ivan IV on the banks of the Vologda River was built by Tsar's pantry courtyard and the city has become an important transit point for trade. Also at that time it was built a stone Vologda Kremlin.
Historical and religious sights - "Vologda Kremlin" (Bishops yard), Cathedral of the Savior Saviour Priluki Monastery (1537-1542), Church of the Assumption (1st quarter of the XVI century), House of Fair (1790-s years), the House of Specific department ( 1810), the house Butyrina (1902), the house Kirhoglanina (1910), the house Zasetskaya (1790-s years) and others.
