A small historical reference

Novodvinsk - a city in the Arkhangelsk Region, situated on the north of the region, on the left bank of the Mechka-Paula Northern Dvina River. Date of foundation and the first written mention - 1936 year. Previous name - Voroshilovsky, Pervomaisky.

The city history begins in 1924, when the brother and sister Karelskie founded commune village Zakharovo "Red Dawn" by building two houses in a deserted village on the left bank of the Mechka-Paula. On April 7, 1935 there began the construction of sulphite pulp mill, called Arhbumstroem (Arkhangelsk PPM). During the Great Patriotic War, the mill produced gunpowder.
