History of city Solvychegodsk, Arkhangelsk Oblast in photos

A small historical reference

Solvychegodsk - a city in the Kotlas District of the Arkhangelsk region, located in the south of the area, on the right bank of the river Vychegda, a tributary of the Northern Dvina River. Date of establishment - XIV century. Previous name - Usolye, Usolsky, Sol-Vychegodskaya. The city history begins with the founding near of cities Chernihiv and Choosing Usolye tenements and the construction in 1515 of the first Anika Stroganov salt works on the river Usolka, the lake Solonikha.

With the end of the XVII century, the city is known for a distinctive school of painting - Usolye enamel. From 1908 to 1910s here in exile Josef Stalin. In 1923 Solvychegodsk based spa and mud resort.
