A small historical reference

Tomari - a town in the Sakhalin region, located on the southwest coast of Sakhalin Island. Through the city flows the river Tomarinka. Date of establishment - 1870. Previous name - Tomarioru (until 1946). In the years 1905-45 as a part of Japan, since 1945 - in the USSR. In the period of Japanese paper mill was built. The city's economy - industrial fishing, fish industry, coal mining, forestry. In the northern part of the city on "bumovskoy" hill are remains Shrine Tomarioru-Jinja Shrine, which was built in 1922.
